Gene- First off, let me say that I have NO say on who is on "the committee" and that I have not been invited to be on "the committee"... and if asked, I'm not certain that I want to serve on the committee. I'm only responding to all these posts because the questions are being directed to me since I had responded to Chuck Smorse's initial post that would leave one to believe that Chuck did not know the difference between grading and slabbing of chips. I would think that a couple of the club officers would have chimed in by now.
One of the risks in posting on this subject (and other subjects on this bb) is that every word is taken apart and closely scrutinized ... when most references are made in broad general terms.
Secondly, I think that when the grading descriptions were drafted, I don't believe that illegals were considered (wrongfully so) ... but that the descriptions were more for traditional "casino chips". I plead ignorance as to how many collectors of "illegals" there are. You have a better handle on that than I do. If your estimate is 300, then I accept that estimate, but initially I did not think there were that many... nor did I ever think that illegals would be slabbed.... which I repeat, was what this thread started out about.... grading vs. slabbing.
Gene; You wrote ... "NO!! I DO NOT WANT THEM LABELED UNCOLLECTABLE by some NV chip collector." To that, I can only say ... tell it to the club officers or to their "committee".
"And the guy that wrote the uncollectable part of the one that was posted, needs to be left off the commeettee!!!! I can not believe our officers allowed that to be posted." Maybe that's why I was left of "the committee" Gene.
As a constructive suggestion ... perhaps some of the "illegals" collectors could draft some compromise on grading terms that your group would be satisfied with and offer it to the club officers after it's hashed out among your 300. This back and forth on the bb is not going to change too much when everyone has a different opinion or is looking to blame someone else for drafting an initial rough proposal.
BTW: I don't know if you consider me as one of the 300 you referred to ... but for the record, I don't personally consider myself as one of the 300, although I've done some very limited research on a few NJ illegals as a favor to others.
