"If I recall, before I started collecting there was a show in Atlantic City which unfortunately did not have the expected response. Attempting a convention here could proove to be disasterous. Bob T.
Bob; One of the reasons that the two or three commercial shows that were attempted and failed in nearby Ocean City, NJ was because collectors did not support the show in large enough numbers to make it profitable for the promoter.
A big turnout for the free trading session the night before the show opened, but relatively few people returned the following two days to spend money with dealers (one year there was a snowstorm on that weekend). As a result, dealers didn't renew table contracts for the following year and there has not been any chip shows in the area since ... with the exception of the Atlantic City Chapter meetings. I fear the same result would happen should the club take it's convention to a location that would not draw the same numbers that Las Vegas does.
Actually, the A.C. Chapter usually gets out well over 100 chippers for each meeting ... many of whom come from nearby states ... and quite a few of whom do set up tables to buy, sell and trade that resembles a mini-show.... but no where near the number of attendance it would take if done on a larger scale.
