I managed to do a little more research this weekend and found out one or two interesting things. About 1 1/2 years ago I researched the NHD hub mold chips that were shipped to Nolan Dunn in Chatanooga, TN in 1939. The address was for the Riverside Social Club and our Mr. dunnn was the manager. He ordered 2000 chips so he wasn't playing poker with a few friends! Well it seems like Dunn was a busy boy in those days. By 1941 he had turned over the management (I don't know if it was volutary or not)to A P Cox and for some reason the address was changed from 415 1/2 to 419 1/2 Market Street. That area of Market Street still has a cute little downtown bar/restaurant flavor and there is a second floor above that could have been the 1/2 in the addresses. In fact there was still one club on the second floor but I didn't feel like going past the rather large, unsavory person who was hanging around the door. But more about our Mr.Dunn. By 1941 he was managing the Old Settlers Club at 1101 1/2 Market Street. And of course in order to run a club you have to have poker chips. So Mr. Dunn ordered 100 Hub mold chips with the initials OSC on them. Now the question comes as to why he got 2000 NHD but only 100 OSC. So far I have no idea but I am willing to bet that he either used the NHD chips at both places or had chips from another, as yet unknown, venture that he used at the Old Settlers Club. Maybe the OSC chips were a high denomination chip? Who knows?
I am also working on a discovery that may prove that the cream colored FM Diamond mold chips were used at a club in Tennessee. I am waiting on permission to use an old photo.
