Has anyone heard or does anyone know what Park Place Entertainment may have done with the remaining chips and tokens that were still in-house (i.e. on the tables/in the cage) after they closed this property? Were the chips and tokens destroyed or are they sitting in a safe somewhere until they complete the sale to new owners Sapphire, L.L.C. in which case Sapphire may use the old chips and tokens temporarily (With the Nevada GCB permission of course) until they can get new chips made by Chipco or by Paul-Son for the yet still unnamed property.
You know I've found that it's now not only getting harder and harder to find any Flamingo Hilton Reno chips but harder and harder to find any Flamingo Hilton chips (i.e. Las Vegas, Laughlin) at all! since renegotiations between Park Place and Hilton for a new franchise agreement failed in late 2001 and on September 6,2001 Park Place ordered that the Hilton name be removed from all of the Flamingo's paraphernalia including the hotel signs, hotel letterhead, newspaper/TV and radio advertisements and probably the chips and tokens too.
Also, according to an article that I recently read in the online edition of the Las Vegas Sun newspaper Park Place has put both the Atlantic City Hilton and the Reno Hilton up for sale and come 2008 when the franchise agreement for these properties comes up for renegotiations if Park Place hasn't found a new owner for these two properties then they will probably go the way of the Flamingo and just opt not to renew or renegotiate with Hilton and just change the name.
