Rene:
I hope you're not exaggerating again. I would find it hard to believe we had 500 people at the show. Let me first say that I had a GREAT time. Rene did a fine job of hosting the trading show and making sure everyone had a drink, the potatoe (VP spelling) chip bowl and pretzel bowls were filled, and keeping everyone entertained.
I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't more S. Nevada Chapter support. My belief is that while some may not wish to support Rene and his show, ultimately, it will hurt our hobby. If you speak to the majority of the dealers, they will tell you it was far from being a great show in terms of sales. What incentive do you think there will be to do further shows if no one shows up. Many dealers didn't make expenses. And with Bill Akeman having more shows while it may be advantageous for the collector, fewer and fewer dealers will set up and ultimately the collector will suffer too. We'll soon be like Jim Gillette and selling out of our roll away bags.
True timing was off with the rescheduling of the Super Bowl but I can't believe it would have been any better if we had two show on the same weekend. We would be splitting dealers and attendees.
I had fun and that's what this hobby is about. But do you think that we're going to have shows when dealers can stay at home and conduct business from their phone or internet instead of taking a table and lugging all their material around the casino?
No doubt producing a show takes lots of work. I would hope you give Rene, Bill and certainly the other show promoters across the country your support and just dues...
