Re: oops...Lamp is not damaged...

I pushed the post button before typing! sad

Many older dice will self-destruct. If they're crystalizing, you can coat them with clear nail polish which will often slow down the disintigration...eventually they will crumble into a pile of "plastic" dust. sad

Some of them will "implode"...many of those will smell like vinegar, many will darken in color, many will pop their spots sad

If they smell like vinegar, coating them with nail polish will give you sticky, stinky dice.

I believe that storing dice in a cool, dark area slows the self-destruction. If you have dice that are self-destructing stored in the same box with other dice, it can speed up the self-destruction process in the other dice. Any damaged dice should be quarantined.

grin Our dice lamp is a very cool thing that we found in Las Vegas several years ago. In spite of the fact that many of the dice are old enough to be in danger of self-destructing, so far they're all fine. Several of the dice on the lamp are ones that we hadn't seen before grin

Yes...we quit collecting dice when we saw our collecting starting to crumble sad
