Pete; Didn't plan on getting into a debate on this subject, but I think it's an issue of collectibility .... and I don't mean just chips. Your comparison to Ty Murray is flawed in that I don't know of too many people (not chip collectors) who collect Ty Murray memorabilia. It's like the Playboy collectors (many of whom do not collect chips) but can't resist throwing down $30 and up for a $1 Playboy chip of which there are THOUSANDS and several are offered every day on ebay! Those thousands of collectors (not neccessarily chippers) are what makes a $1 Playboy chip worth $30 and up....
Playboy; like Boop, has a devoted collector base ... just like Hard Rock has. The Boop collectors don't care if it's a chip, a key chain, a bottle cap, a water bottle, a paper napkin, a necktie, etc... all they know is that it "fits" in with their collecting interests.
Among our little circle of chipper friends, 1000 of any single chip may seem like alot to us. When you add thousands of Boop collectors among the chip collectors .... 1000 or more may not be enough to satisfy the thirst... and I would venture to say that the overwhelming number of Boop collectors don't visit this message board.
