Sounds like fun. Mostly I think everyone needs to drive The Strip once. Maybe once in the daytime, once in the night?
The sign yard was featured on a newer History Channel show recently. They have started some sort of museum, so maybe the signs are moved there?
If you like driving, and it's not that far, go to Jean and check out the casinos, but head up the road to Goodsprings. It's kind of like a ghost town in many ways. Since the NV State prison is in beautiful downtown Jean, the guards have homes there. I don't think there's much other industry. It looks like some mining up in the hills.
I think there's a lost ranch in that area, maybe the one you mentioned. Someone says they found it while out riding their horse. Personally, you could probably find it on a topo or from sattelite photos nowadays? lol Anyway, I know nothing about rocks, but you can find some dried up washes, where there are loads of pretty rocks.
I still suggest Valley of Fire and Overton for people who want a getaway that's fun out in the fresh air. I heard the Hoover dam tour is closed, I hope not forever, because I really like that as well.
