Jon, You make some very valid points. I share your concern regarding the grading of high-end chips. What was important 15 years ago regarding the anti-slabbing movement, may no longer apply today. Just like in coins, only about 1% of really great chips are worthy of being graded. Its not only the condition of rare chips , but also knowing the true rarity of some of these chips.
You are absolutely correct regarding the grading of high-end coins. I can't imagine a coin collector buying a 5 figure coin unless it is properly graded ( slabbed ).
