Banger is just a slang term for a desirable and magnificent looking chip. Kind of like calling something a knockout..when it has nothing to do with boxing.
All of this was just tongue and cheek between me and Joe because he really loves the word. lol

I can understand how sarcasm can be misinterpreted by those not aware of context so hope that clears that up for you.
