The scroll mold is a common mold in the Caribbean. You can find chips with the scroll mold from a number of islands. One of those is the Dominican Republic. One casino there that has used scroll mold chips is the Ibersostar. A while ago, I got new issue chips from there that appear to be scroll mold chips, but are actually ceramic chips which look much like the preceding scroll mold issue, including a scroll design:
The oddity of it amused me. Then, a few weeks ago, I found a similar situation at another casino, the Majestic Colonial:
The style of the Majestic Colonial chips is basically identical to some other Dominican casinos:
There are others I don't have. So, I am wondering if there are now ceramic versions of these out there. Something to look out for.
My other observation is about a set of dealer buttons I got from David Spragg. They have odd text I have not seen on other dealer buttons.
Looking at them together, it appears they would have been used in a single, game rotating, stud poker game. The buttons would indicate whether it was a 5, 6 or 7 card stud game, with another button indicating whether it was to be played high or low. Apparently, 6-card stud was the only high-low game, and it was only played high-low split.
I thought they were pretty cool.
