Dice are from William H. Brown, dice maker extraordinaire and general bad a$$!

In 1910, he was proclaimed the world's motorcycle riding champion when he broke every cycle speed record. He then turned his attention to amateur boxing where he "fought some of the best".

He made dice for individuals and casinos for decades. He operated, with his son, the Perfect Dice Co out the second floor at 310 Washington St. from the 1930s into the 1960s. If I had to guess at the age of the dice, they would be early. I have seen many from illegals that look similar.

But Ed, you said he was a bad a$$. Interesting maybe, but where is the meat??

Fast forward to March 1965, while working on some dice at his Washington St address, he got a knock on the door. Upon opening, the 80 year old William Brown was greeted by a young, six foot tall guy who announced "this is a stickup!" The old man and his young assailant traded punches until William Brown found himself on the ground with the thug's hands around his throat. At that, Brown said "Hold it. I'll give you all the money you want. Let's go where the safe is."

They went into the inner room and Brown opened his safe. Instead of pulling out cash, he withdrew a .38 revolver and started firing. The thief took off running down the stairs when Brown called out, "Here it is." The bandit turned around and Brown fired one last bullet, this one finding its target by smashing into the young man's mouth, blowing out seven teeth that were later found on the stairs (you just know Brown kept them!)

Police were quickly on the scene and followed the trail of blood for blocks until finding a man bleeding from a mouth wound. He denied the holdup, but there was no denying the evidence.

As if William Brown was right out of an '80s action movie, when asked about the robber, he replied "He rolled snake eyes."

Bravo Mr. Brown. Bravo. [slow clap]

Unfortunately, William Brown would only live another couple months and died of a heart attack in June 1965.
