We shouldn't pay for bad management or an ineffective business plan for the future. USPS needs to change their old ways. My first way of dealing with this would be, end Saturday letter mail delivery. End the overtime and extra utility workers. Slowly cut down on extra staff by retirement and attrition, not job cuts. If this was a private business, not a pretend privatized, subsidized Government run operation, there would be cuts to the waste while improving the efficiency.

And here's something pretty far out there, but start shipping mail by rail again, not everything air. Utilize Amtrak. Especially merge mail, junk mail, third class and others. Make First Class what people can choose to pay extra for and ground is going to take a little longer. Our Government pays to run those trains, just like USPS. Make use of what we have already invested in.
