Can't resist a few tidbits on Foxwood. The Peguot history is worth a book. In 1637, the Dutch, the British, and the Monehans
about wiped them out in a massacre. Seems the beaver skin traders resented them in wampam trade offs. In today's
world the last I heard they were still owning two billion in unpaid bills. Seems Indian soverignty makes it hard to collect bills.
Other factors make them noticeable. First came a 5000 seat Bingo hall, built on Chinese Indonesian investment, which
in two years paid off , which led to building a casino, which at 700,000 square feet or so was the largest in the world
for about 20 years. I assume the new add on facilities put them back to Number One. Another factor of historical interest,
the women and children survivors faded into colored communities. Because they managed to maintain their language
and cultural aspects, Washington, in the 1980s, granted them official Native American status (Sovenigty) although they
numbered less than one thousand members. I've visited Foxwood and its well worth a visit. Robert Denbow - R7362
