Look at me, full of opinions that nobody asked for!
What I am saying has been told my many already... The CCA can only grow membership if they offer something that the normal person can't get otherwise. For us old-timers, we keep up our memberships because this in "our club". For the newbie, they ask, "Why should I join?"
Right now, the biggest (and some would say only) benefit of membership is the quarterly magazine. For the casual collector, the annual dues might not justify just getting a magazine.
That is where I think we need to start. Identifying potential members doesn't do any good if we don't have something they want.
Potential items that may or may not work:
- Access to the Member's Only section of the website (magazine archives, etc)
- Access to the print/digital club magazine
- Ability to purchase the annual digest (if digital is regular option)
- Full functionality of the Chip Guide (collection tracker, trade function, searches, etc)
- Members only activities at the convention
- Convention Thursday morning is Members Only, public at noon (might be extreme)
- Discount for the convention floor
- Trade sessions open to members only (might already be the case?)
Must be other low hanging fruit.
The CCA is the only collector's club I am a member of. Are there any other GROWING collectors' clubs out there that we could see what they offer?
