By day I put out a B to B business magazine for around 23,000 people in Canada. Our costs are printing (in colour) and mailing...each of which has been going up yearly for 20 years. Paste up (yes I am that old) can be done quite easily and cheaply, and the articles are from industry people
We offer the magazine for free on the website...which is surrounded by ads
Why do we still "cut down trees" to produce a print magazine. A whole bunch of reasons... our readers are the same age, I'm guessing, as the club. Secondly, change is always difficult for anybody...we often joke at the office that when we started this 30 years ago, if it was all just on a web site, nobody would be complaining. And...this is important for us...advertisers like knowing that there is a print ad on someone's desk. I have no idea what our advertisers here think about any change, but I haven't heard anybody else talk about it,
And finally a vote against going online...our competitors have tried this and failed over time...the "prestige" is gone since "anybody" can publish on the web, readers don't like having one version, and advertisers have disappeared...we still promote that we are "on desk" by Sept 15th for the next issue...or whenever it is
so maybe in this list there are a few things to think about
