Not sure what you're referring to but just to clarify, using usps.com and pirateship.com you never have to go to the PO for any package no matter the size (as long as you have a printer to print to postage out).

Wasn't inferring you bought counterfeit stamps either just that I remember seeing it mentioned recently and it could by the reason for the change.
