They have a monopoly on online auctions and have had it for decades. Profits are easy, nobody can ever compete or really hope to, because ebay has such scale and tens of millions of eyeballs. Ebay lost the race in Japan back in the day, yahoo won, so the big auction website in Japan is yahoo.

So when ebay does stupid sh*t like this, I am not surprised. The money is too easy for them, and they don't have to care about buyers or sellers. I just roll my eyes a little, shake it off, then do everything I can not to buy or sell anything on ebay.
