Thoughts on what's happening...

with the club and the hobby.

When the club started it served a critical need to organize collectors. It was built on an organizational structure that worked for
the needs of the stakeholders at the time. The all-volunteer structure worked for what needed to be done at the time. Most
501c3's start this way. But they eventually need to change their organizational structure to continue to grow beyond the "Start-Up"
phase. They eventually hire an Executive Director and then staff and add as needed. In my opinion and I've said this for more than
a decade now, if the club wanted to continue to be relevant, it needed to change the organizational structure. This would change the
nature of how things are run. You can't have self-serving leadership. You don't have "membership" make the organizational decisions, the
BOD makes them. The BOD raises money. The ED runs the daily activities. This move ultimately takes the power away from club membership
but it empowers the organization to be far more than a club.

I thought this hobby would die a slow death but the good news is that the tides have turned. Poker players are coming to the rescue.
As I see it, there is more interest in chip collecting now than there has ever been. The issue is that it is not translating to the club
and the club is not in a position to be able to professionally guide the hobby. I believe that all the problems that we have seen called out here are a symptom of the club's downside. It is just a club. It has transient leadership positions and can't get to maturity with the way things are designed. An interesting thing to happen is that new collectors are building their own structures outside the club to do what the club should be doing for its mission. That is providing relevant programming for the general public. I have a lot more to say but in a nutshell, I don't like seeing nasty back-and-forths on here from people I like, but I understand why they are happening. I would encourage the club or others to have programming that deals with what is on people's minds now. (for example) I have no idea of the intellectual property laws and rights when it comes to pictures submitted to the guide. I know it is a hot topic. Maybe as part of the clubs's mission to "educate" it could organize a Facebook Live or Zoom Q&A on this topic with a qualified professional in the area. Maybe we could all learn something? I'm still having FUN grin , but there is a lot of work to be done.
