Re: Kirsh's Photos of TRK & Overall Criticism

Great post E! Also appreciate the candor and thanks for keeping it real and trying to promote and advance the hobby, E.

Here are some of my comments/opinions, not necessarily aimed at any specific post or person:

Related to the current reporting of hoards, I am not sure if it was and admin or someone else reported it through an "update" to the Chip Guide. Either way, I think it would be very time consuming for CG admins to confirm each, at least without a more robust or specific entry system. I do think it is slippery slope as reporting should be handled consistently. Either way, what I would suggest is that the CG adopt a policy covering reported "hoards" or "finds", so they are handled consistently and with back up or support.

At one point, I did attempt to document known or reported finds with my chip blog. Each reported find had photos or links back to where the find was reported (usually to this board). I found it too hard to keep up to date and eventually stopped updating it. If anyone is interested, here is the link:

Here are my thoughts on the Chip Guide:

> I support the Chip Guide and think its a valuable resource to all chip collectors.
> I agree if people use the CG images, they should reference it. Seems simple to me to give credit, where credit is due.
> I believe that the CG is owned by the MOGH, which is also a non-for-profit org, just like the CCA is. You can read the mission statements at each website, which I support fully.
> Also, I support the CG admins and webmaster as they are unpaid and are volunteers (work for free). It is a difficult and un-appreciated job.

The only "criticism" I have is the way that the CG accepts images. I don't care if its technically legal or illegal to lift images from Ebay (or other sites for that matter), I just think its in poor taste to use these images without permission. I am not sure what policies the CG has, but I would like to see the CG adopt a policy that disallows taking images from ebay or other websites without specific permission given to the CG.

Other than that, I would like to say to keep up the great work and happy chippin'!

Best regards,
Greg
