Yes Pete,
The conversation at PokerChipper, while based on a lot of speculation regarding pricing from Paulson is speckled with a bit of information from parties involved in the latest buy. My post here and there was purely an effort to answer a couple questions from the singles collectors in a further attempt to bridge the gap between Singles and Sets collectors and give insite to a small portion of how us set collectors enjoy the hobby!
The NAGB chips are definitely an interesting part of the hobby for sure, as mentioned in the thread at PC we're told that the cost was well OVER $3 a chip based on factors such as crating, Art fees, shipping etc. and due possibly to the fact that certain insert patterns that were retired got revived for that project. Unfortunately when these buys happen, which seems more frequently, there is a shroud of secrecy around things like quantity produced, and for sure cost and again, I can only speculate that the secrecy behind all this is to protect the margins the producer gets when selling and the production numbers are not released to do the same as now you don't know how "rare" an individual chip is other than by the word of the seller.
It doesn't make sense to me that a 100 Rack of brand new GPI chips made of modern materials that are less rugged and lighter weight can be worth 3 times what I've been offered for a 100 Rack of genuine leaded uncirculated Pick Hobson Riverside $5 TRK's. Baffles the brain.
The discussion continues at PokerChipper. Someone suggested a "Bounty" on GPI invoice copies from the NAGB's! lol! I wish I was that interested but I'm not. Chip costs from Paulson at $3 - $4 is hard to believe for me as I wouldnt thing a real casino would pay that much but who knows! in the end the cost to the chipper pushes $1500 a rack in some cases.
