How do you run the scanner if it's not connected to a computer? I'm mystified. Scanning to the cloud? Then you could download the scans? If it's scan to the cloud, you can email yourself the scans.
Anyway, an Epson V series will work just fine. CCD scanner is the answer for better color rendition. From the Chip Guide:

I have an older V200 which still works. The newer ones have more and better features. Depends on what else you want to do?
When this one gives up, which could be any day, I'm in the hunt for a Epson Perfection V19 Color Photo & Document Scanner, that is USB powered. That way I could take a laptop to the library with this and scan reference books. (If they let me?) 4800 dpi is much, much more than any of us needs for documents or casino chips.
But you may be able to use the scanner you have and that would be nice if it's CCD.
