Your chips to the $500 & including it I believe to the best of my knowledge are real chips ordered by the Castaway's & USED in the casino for gaming purposes therefore they are real chips.
If they ordered other chips & did not use them are they real? Well the only way they should of been made was for a casino operator. Therefore they should be considered legitimate. Even if used to be given away it is their business. Does a chip collector lower the value on an item like this? Some do some don't. It depends on how they collect. Lots of hi level chips do not hit the tables. THe TOwn Hall Casino chips either never did or rarely did so they have no value? No.
I give no guarantee on the Race & Sports chips. Reason being as mentioned in a post at the top I mention "spun". See the spin marks on the one's I say are real? Those are old chips. Maybe a different one exists but I don't have any with spin marks.
As for why incused & non incused mold called in my Official Price Guide book BJ-1 & BJ-2:
Incused, debossed, stamped in mold whatever you call it originated from an approximate, 1972 to 74. Put in use at Howard Hughes properties. Desert Inn, Frontier & then Castaway's. Also Silver Slipper. Later orders were smooth & mixed in at Slipper & Castaway's. I believe no chips were ever "faked" in these obsolete incused molds.
I still can not figure whey Gene can not tell us more! What is to hide? I have asked about Bud Jones knowingly making phony chips. Is this true & can never be spoken about?
How did a guy have all these chips made that are on Gene's fake list & the maker not make them? Yes, one guy petalled all these chips. If Carl Osbourne is still in town dealing blackjack maybe someone wants to go ask him.
If any of you care to check some dates, use my book or whatever you will see that the casino's using the smooth edge mold designs, BJ-2, are later casino's starting around 79 & closing mid 80's. I do not know when Bud Jones Company switched. My guess is 78 or 79.
I just want to say again that I do not misinform anyone with a price of $300 each for any of these last issue high denomination Castaway's chis as Orme for some reason claims I do!!!!!!!
The prices in my book are what these chips bring. It is what they have brung for years. My prices are lower than what Jerry Wall charged for most. I lowered the value as the market did not hold up to the quantity existing. THey might be down a bit on ebay but what isn't?
I sure hope this clears some things up & I have answered some of your questions.
