Candidate Statement for SNCCC Presidential Election / Jerry Vergatos

Election time is upon us this month and it is turning out to be a very interesting one. In interesting I mean rife with accusations of impropriety and corruption. The issues brought about by MY OPPONENT along with other members who have an ulterior motive have turned this election on its head. Malicious comments made at our recent Club meeting created a very hostile atmosphere not conducive to the Clubs purpose of having a positive meeting experience with Guest Speakers and fun activities.

These malicious members along with their supporters really have no interest in making the SNCCC a great Club, but instead, wish to destroy it and my reputation along with it. The comments made by two of my candidate’s supporters at the meeting were totally unprofessional and destructive. I could not be present to answer these questions as I was in New York and Denver on family business.

This presented these two Club members with an opportunity to ambush the meeting and put everyone on the defensive. This is the second time this has happened. These issues could have been presented to the Board in an email for verification and discussion by which the BoD could have taken steps to rectify any issues. They both know the proper procedures in dealing with Club Business being past BoD members themselves but instead choose to sensationalize Club issues in an open meeting.

Additionally, In an attempt to create confusion and stop the election, MY OPPONENT has DEMANDED that the election be halted. Candidates for election do not have the right to change the rules whenever they please especially in the middle of the election. Our process, although somewhat antiquated has been in effect for at least 15 years. MY OPPONENT was elected a few years ago as a Member at Large with that process. It didn’t seem to be a problem then why is it now?

Comments on the board were made by some members who I have had issues with in the past. Their involvement currently is indicative of their disdain for me and the SNCCC. Another ex-club official was the person who conducted the previous elections even when he was a Club officer. He neglected his secretarial duties and failed to inform our current Secretary of those duties.

What it now comes down to is who the Membership feels can take the SNCCC to the next level. We have growing pains but as a group, the current SNCCC BoD can solve any problems and issues. I wish to be that person.

Trashing the Club in the manner it was done at the meeting is not conducive to making the SNCCC better, instead, it polarizes our membership. While MY OPPONENT may not directly condone these actions I believe he is allowing himself to be a pawn to others with their agendas.

As a result of these tactics, The SNCCC Has lost two of our stellar Election Co-Chairs Bruce and Mary Ann Massey. Their professionalism and integrity have always been exemplary and their resignations to conduct our elections is a serious blow to our Club's integrity. Their resignations are justified as their reputations cannot be tarnished in any way. I am embarrassed and ashamed that they had to end their Chairmanships in this way. I apologize for placing them in this position
