Blew my hot water heater Friday and my service/replacement insurance installed a new one today at no charge + a $10 gas charge.
When I built the house 40 years ago, I decided to include a second 40 gal to service the bathrooms with the first one in the garage in case of a leak and, since this one was planned to be on the bathrooms wing, I placed it behind the master shower partition (drop) and had a sheet metal man fold me a 6" deep pan with 3/4" copper running wild which I passed threw the partition to empty into the shower in case of a leak... and everything went according to plan 40- years later, last Friday.
The Pex drop you see is from when I changed out my overhead hot and cold copper fifteen years ago because of a few leaks I had during the 25 years prior (mineral deposits).
Also, when I was on the phone with the service, I suggested they hard wire the unit to current code in case of fire where I wouldn't have to listen to any BS from my homeowners insurance in case the house burned down. They said that was part of the job.
The best part of all this were the comments from the crew who one of has been installing hot water heaters for over 25 years saying that he never saw a pan custom made like this one that would drain into a shower.
For one low yearly premium I am fully covered for parts and labor on both my central AC units, both tanks, washer/dryer, fridge, freezer, ovens, touch panels and all that good stuff and, if they can't fix it they replace it. So far they replaced both AC units, washing machine along with several service calls through the years that never cost me a dime...
All I need to do is touch up around the copper which I wanted to do myself since i need to clean it before and after I caulk it (not grout).
