Back in the 70s I tendered bar while going to school a couple of nights a week and I remember these little corner bars in the New York New Jersey area ….

they would serve peanuts, bar pies, Stewart hot sandwiches, pretzels and other snacks while you sat there and drank your draft beer and a shot of whiskey. Very friendly blue collar neighborhood bars….
