I think if a chip collector is paying 10 or 20K for a rare casino chip, they deserve assurance that their getting the real deal. I certainly would not spend serious money on a rare chip from certain businesses or individuals. Too many hucksters out there looking to take advantage of uninformed people. All the hobbies coins, baseball cards, stamps, rare watches, comic books, classic cars, etc. all have issues with misrepresented and counterfeit goods.
At one time I collected casino dice. And then I found out that some of the most reputable dice dealers in the hobby, were making and selling very rare old gaming dice from great old clubs and casinos. As a result I sold off my entire dice collection. And I know other collectors who did the same. Just look around and take a look at some of these dice that are still floating around. The casino dice collecting market is pretty much dead as a result of this.
