As for your take on insurance.........I understand what you are saying, BUT I doubt the Post Office is going to agree. As far as they are concerned, what you paid for the item IS it's true value. Maybe someone who works in that area of the Postal Service can jump in here if they read the Board. It does no good to ask the people at the counter as they know about as much as some cage people in the Casinos.
