I never bid on reserve auctions. A lot of times they set extremely high reserves just to see what their product is really worth with no intention of ever selling it. (Read that as free appraisal!)Ebay used to have a rule that the reserve had to be not more than 50% higher (or something) than the minimum. But I think they eliminated that requirement.
