Good points all, and one more suggestion. Please don't attach scans that are 365K and expect people to wait a few minutes for them to load. Most of the time, people will just skip your message, sale, offer or whatever and move on.
I have used a digital camera,(640x480, minimum quality, most of the cheapies do this now) which I have for other purposes and have had very good results. Scanners are nice for a quick image, so is the camera. Scanners are much cheaper! Cameras can go on vacation... My images of $100 chips are all from a digital camera.
Your later scans look great Rick, maybe you had the size so large, that when you reduced it, the pixels got distorted. I've had that happen to photographs.
I used the camera for this Elko chip. Not the best, but it shows what the chip looks like?
