I was at MGM the night of the Cesar Chavez fight. It was about three weeks after they opened, so it felt like a “coming out party”. Celebrities and Mexican flags everywhere and the place seemed crowded, even taking into consideration the size of the place, which at the time was in another league compared to any other place in town. They even had an entire theme park in their back yard and an arena in addition to two showrooms. I spent much of the night at the lone French roulette table, buying in over and over and offering other players money for their Jetons. The dealers used long sticks like in Europe and spoke among themselves in Dutch. And yelled at me more than a couple of times. It was daylight before I got to my room. I still have the Jetons I acquired that night almost thirty years later, and whenever I look at them it brings back the excitement of that night. That’s the real treasure of chip collecting.
