In 1945, the final year of World War II, a nationwide curfew closed all bars, saloons, and entertainment
venues. In Nevada, the War Mobilization Agency ordered 300 casino dealers, bartenders, and other
non-essential workers to begin work in industries crucial to the war effort. Starting Feb. 26 all casinos
were ordered to close from midnite to 8 am. to conserve energy, manpower, and transportation. The
curfew ended on May 9, 1945 following Germany's surrender the previous day. The photo shows an
