Originally the Mayer Hotel, it was changed under new ownership to the Stockmen's in 1944.
Like their neighbors the Commercial, they had big name entertainment like Burl Ives and
Tennessee Ernie Ford. It was destroyed by fire on March 23, 1957. Lost were five Polk machines
that had been featured in Life magazine. Owner Dan Bilboa rebuilt and enlarged the hotel
shortly thereafter. I once asked him for old chips but he was too drunk to get me anything!
I remember winning a turkey on a slot promotion one Thanksgiving there.
