I think that there are two questions:

1) what would cause the cross hatching not to line up? Often this is the result of an inlay popping out and being reglued without consideration as to the correct orientation. That would make a repaired, not fake chip.
2) what would cause painted on inlays? I would say that the first glance made them look like painted inlays, and the second glance made them seem correct. As such, I would have to see the chip in hand to make a decision.
