I’m completely new to this board, and mostly posted on here to be able to use the incredible wealth of knowledge that exists within to gain more understanding of some chips I recently acquired from the estate of a late collector, through his granchildren. It took me 18+ months to finally get the chips due to probate court proceedings.
The Sands casino chips I posted seems to have generated some controversy around whether they were authentic, or reproductions from the 1990s. After connecting with the executor of the estate last night, I can verify that those specific Sands small crown chips were in the late collector’s possession since February of 1981. That makes it highly unlikely that they were part of any reproduction batches in the 90s.
I similarly asked him about the provenance of the other rare chipsets that were part of the acquisition: they include small crown TRK chips from the El Cortez Hotel, the Mapes Casino and several Hat & Cane mold chips from other Nevada casinos. The El Cortez chips (examples pictured below — my 900 chipset has denominations of $0.50, $5, $25 and $100) were acquired by the collector in 1976.
For those that might be concerned that this find potentially brings the value of your singles down, please don’t fret — these chips will never see any venue other than my own collection; they’re not for sale, trade or auction at all.
