Nexus allows me expedited crossings at the US/Canada border. It automatically includes Pre-Check. The cost is $50 for 5 years, so even better than buying the $85 package.

It requires background checks in the US and Canada and an interview at select border stations, though, and new rules have some kind of iris scanning for entering Canada using "kiosks." I have no experience with that practice.

I can only recommend NEXUS for those living close tot he border, but its cost is attractive.
