I have 3 services
- Nexus ($50 for 5 years) for travel between US and Canada. Global entry is for entry back into the US
- TSA pre-check (available free with Nexus or can be purchased, I know renewal is $70, but not sure on initial application)
- CLEAR (a subscription service to get you through the TSA pre-check line quicker)
The value really depends on the airport. At my home airport, LAS, pre-check is a necessity. It has the shortest lines, you can leave your shoes on and laptop/electronics and toiletries in the bag. But over time the TSA PC line has increased so much with non-travelers that it has slowed down. CLEAR allows me to effectively bypass the TSA pre-check line, and in the rare instances I don't get the stamp, or the dreaded SSSS, I get walked to the front of the line. One of the credit cards I carry pays for my yearly CLEAR membership and also pays for my pre-check renewal every 5 years.
Most of the airports I travel in have a TSA pre-check line. Even some of the smaller ones. Not all have a CLEAR line, but when they do its very fast, no ID needed as you use fingerprint or retina scan plus your boarding pass.
