The Sonoma Inn opened on Memorial Day weekend 1947. Decorated in a Western theme, it was
billed as the finest hotel-casino in Northern Nevada. They even hired "mermaids" to swim in
the pool. Under Bill Campbell, the Sonoma Inn filed for bankruptcy in 1969 and was sold to
Joe Mackie. He remodeled it extensively and renamed it the Winners Inn.
