Report on the Texas Fantasea

After the discussion last week about Texas Casinos, I made a last minute decision to run over to Texas City and take the Fantasea Cruise. Here's the story. There were about 14-15 crew and a total of 19 gamblers. (Great crew/passenger ratio!) Very small boat--some of the nearby shrimp boats appeared bigger. 4 Blackjack Tables (only 2 were open), 1 Carribean Stud table (not open), 1 Roulette Wheel (not open), 1 Craps Table (open) and a large number of slot machines. Only a snack bar where they would microwave you a bag of popcorn or microwave you a hot sandwich. You could buy a beer or they would give you a soft drink. The really nice thing about this experience was that everybody was friendly and easy going. One man had his 11-12 year old son who carried around a bucket of quarter tokens and played slots all afternoon (I do not think this is legal--even in International waters??). They were generous with the cocktails, helpful at the tables, very pleasant--even if twice they tried to take our money when the dealer had "22". I was told the ship had originally been in Panama City, Florida and moved over to Texas City. I was told that they had done almost no advertising and are waiting for Spring to open a big publicity blitz. They do own a land-side building that they say they will open as a restaurant and an office in the Spring. Chips: $1, $2.50 (not shown in Greg's guide), $5., $25., $100. (beyond my reach) and Tokens: 25¢ & $1. Fun trip. Do not know what their future holds.
