I was an oxymoron -- as I served in "Military Intelligence." Trained for Vietnam, but was sent to South America during the military junta reign of Gen. Omar Torrijos -- who was overthrown twice before he died in an airplane crash. Our mission was to train all of the South American Air Forces and I felt like a WWII airman as we had all the old C-46 and C-47, C-117 and C-121 and C-123 aircraft -- all prop planes, no jets. Glad to have the experience of going back in time. When I think about it, I can still hear the "looping sounds" as those great birds flying overhead and taxing down the winding tarmac. To all the veterans who had a different job in hostile environment, I say "Thanks You For Your Service."
