I don't remember the Mackerel Run in Hollywood. Not with banana leaves anyway! There was some sort of "fish run" that excited anglers, as I recall, but a different species. None of my family enjoyed fishing so I never did any until late in my teens, when living again in White Plains, NY. My uncle allowed my mother and I on his sailboat and off we went over Long Island Sound to "fish for flounder." Well, there I was, a worm on my line, when I felt a gigantic tug and pulled up . . . a rattlesnake! Actually, an eel. We were all astonished. Without eelaborating too much, my uncle kindly got it off the hook and tossed it into a bucket of seawater where Mr. Eel dashed around in circles, sliming up the joint. Eventually we got it to his home where he smoked it. In a meat smoker, I mean, not like in a pipe, although that would have been an interesting wrap-up of the day's adventures. It tasted pretty good when he was done with it but I never really wanted to go fishing for snakes again.
Yep, it's usually fun to "troll" for treasures at flea markets and this time out I had some luck with key-fobs. Just depends on who brings what!
