...as my nephew (the pilot) has been doing a LOT of bombing in Afghanistan. He loves to fly and has been trained to do just that, fly and fight. Flying other missions have been more technical, just a matter of flying to a target pushing a button, flipping a switch, and flying back nothing personal. None of this is new to him; the reality of what he is doing is beginning to set in. He has flown many missions to destroy places, buildings, airfields, etc. Now he is bombing places where it is known that there will be many people, while he cannot ‘see’ the people die he knows what is happening. Killing people is weighing heavily on his mind right now and is becoming more 'real & personal' for him. Unfortunately, bombs are not selective whom they kill. He has found out taking of another human life is a heavy burden to bear. Reality of war is sinking in, it’s not a Nintendo game, and it’s real people who are really dying. While I think the people responsible for the terrorism we have experienced should be given the gift of rotting in H*LL everlasting, I am not so naïve to understand that it is a heavy burden on those who have to ‘do the dirty work.’ I feel for him, but I am glad he's delivering our justice…and glad he has a conscience.
