I didn't have a good map of the casino area for Tunica when I attended Jim's chip show last month. Here is a map I picked up after I found Harrahs, way at the end of the last road. You might want to save this in case you make a trip there in the near future. You can drive south from Memphis on highway 61, the one shown on the map. However, I found it faster to take the interstate south and cross over on hwy 304. You won't find much help in the way of roadsigns to the casinos, particularly in Tennessee. Lots of signs once you get in the area on hwy 61.
The map makes it look like you will get a 'river experience' from the hotels in the Tunica area. I didn't see the river once! You will see cotton fields in the area between many of the casinos. And I guess you could find the river if you wanted to 'beat your feet on the Mississippi mud', but I didn't try it. There is water around the barges that house the casinos. Some of them even have waterfalls, and fountains. I have a feeling the water isn't part of the river, though. Any of you southerners know whether the barges are floating on river water, or just in ponds created in the general area?
You probably won't want to walk between casinos if you visit the area. It is possible to walk between the four hotels at "casino center". I also walked between Harrahs, Hollywood, Sams Town and Isle if Capri, but it's some distance... a 10-15 minute walk between the hotels. There is a shuttle service, but the one time I tried to ride it (at 1 a.m.) the bus never showed up, so I'd rent a car if I were you.
One comment about The Sheraton Casino. It uses a Caesars Palace design on its slot card and inside has been redecorated with a number of 'roman' type artifacts. I asked a casino host and they indicated they would be changing to a Caesars name before the end of the year. They didn't know whether they would combine players clubs though so you could use comps from the other Caesars locations there. Currently, you can't.
