AJ, the main surface looks ok for the most part and the recessed parts look dried out (for whatever reason). I suspect the handling of the chip kept a certain level of oils in the chip, but the hand generally doesn't reach into the recessed portions. I believe that if you add a small amount of oil (maybe the faqs say what kind of oil) will revive this chip to a certain level, even in the recessed area. I would guess if it is damaged enough, it won't help, but it doesn't look that bad. Just a guess, based upon the photo.
