Recently, a Tyler, TX metal detecting club searched abandoned farms around Beaumont, Texas -- site of the early 1900s discovery of oil at Spindletop that launched the Texas oil industry. And, with the boom came a multitude of illegal gambling clubs in two counties of Jefferson and Galveston as that part of Southeast Texas became notorious for all kinds of vice, illegal alcohol, gambling, etc. Attached is a metal token -- one of 100 nicely-minted coins - found buried in a small metal box in Jefferson County near Beaumont. The oil well that started the boom was known as "The Lucas Gusher." These coins look like dime-size slot tokens. Unable to find any information on the internet. Perhaps, someone might have information if these were early slot tokens. Front has Cowboy Hat Derrick and reverse has a "lucky horsehoe with a four-leaf clover -- possibly signs of a gaming piece.
