Before the Golden Gate Bridge was built gambling was an attraction that got San Franciscans to ferry over to Marin County to play poker legally. Gambling of any kind was not legal in SF since 1884 when laws changed. The 881 Club opened in 1890 and used these Carlo chips until it was sold to Pete Pellolio in 1961.
