More and more electronic fingers in our checking accounts all in the name of 'convenience' or lower costs for the other party. Even though we watch/hear every day (sometimes we don't hear until months later!) that these places which we give our financial info to are getting hacked one by one. Convenience is not part of the definition of security so I choose to keep my digital footprint to a minimum while I watch my contemporaries succumb to 'everybody's doing it' so it must be ok-attitude. I've learned over the years when others tease and laugh at you for being 'too cautious', then you must be doing the right thing. And when their account is hit (and hit again), guess who they come to for financial help?
Many of us keep 2 or more email addresses for the same reason; the 'junk' email addy we give out for dicey/questionable things and the important email address we protect.
As for Ebay, I think many of us will end up opening a new 'junk' checking account (probably at another bank, and will keep at or near 0) that we're not as worried about as our 'good' account we keep more $ in and take care of important things with.
