My last time in Reno-Tahoe area was about 3 years ago...
But I would recommend that you check out the websites of these 3 Reno Hotel-Casinos:
-- Peppermill (south of downtown). Nicest property, but most expensive generally.
-- Atlantis (also south of downtown).
-- Grand Sierra Resort (near the airport).

All are large, standalone properties with a range of amenities.
You will need to drive to other casinos; none in walking distance.

The downtown properties are worth a daytime trip to drive past, if you have the time. Maybe stop in at Eldorado and take a pic of the RENO sign across Virginia St. But downtown has lost its specialness over the years, IMO.

If you're interested in gaming history, there's neat little museum on the U.Nevada-Reno campus, just north of downtown: American Gaming Archives (affiliated with the Nevada Historical Society).

The open hours are limited however, so check to see if it fits in your schedule.

I also agree with others that a side trip to Lake Tahoe is worth doing if you have the time.
