I loved your trip report and your stories, but they tend to lead me down a rabbit hole, or 3-4 rabbit holes!! lol!! I'm surrounded by about 8-9 phone books, all propped open to Fallon "clubs" (in the yellow pages), or Fallon white pages (in statewide phone books). Now if I could just remember all the stuff I'm supposed to be looking for...

Anyway, on your post you wondered if the Headquarters still has table games. Here's a note I made on our trip in October of 2003:

"Fallon-Headquarters Bar and Casino, 134 S. Maine St., opened in 1987. They don’t have table games anymore, but still have chips they’re willing to sell. Probably one of the buildings next to Headquarters was the Barrel House at 138 S. Maine St. (1935-1952)"

As I recall, we tried to buy some chips but there wasn't anyone there with keys to the vault. They asked if we wanted them to mail a few chips to us? [Yes, please!]. They had us write down our name and address and leave money for whatever chips we wanted. A week or so later the chips showed up in the mail.

The Corner Bar is listed at Maine & Center in the January 1938 State of Nevada Phone Book. It is NOT listed in the April 1937 State Phone book.

Disclaimer: Many of our casino reference materials don't necessarily have "open" and "closing" dates of a business (even though they say "open" and "closed")...many of the dates listed in our references are for gambling licenses. The Corner Bar probably opened sometime between April 1937 and January 1938, but might not have had gambling until the 1940's. Or maybe it did...I don't know. I was just looking to see if I could find anything to indicate when it might have opened.

The 1968-1969 Fallon phone book has this listing: "Roadside Inn Mom's Place 1980 Reno Hwy....423-9941"

Also FWIW:
1956, 1957, and 1960 Fallon phone books: "Roadside Inn Reno Hwy. HArrison3-9193" (no mention of Mom's)

Owl Club...

My Nevada Casinos Database shows the Owl Club was open 1931-1952

Just for the fun of it...The Owl Club wasn't listed in the January 1931 phone book (of course gambling wasn't legal until March 19, 1931). (We don't have 1932). The 1933 phone book lists "Owl Pool Hall" phone #190-W. I don't know if that was related to the Owl Club or not, because there's no street name or address listed.

Our next phone book is 1937, which lists "Owl Club Maine St 42-W"

Skipping the 1940's....

In the 1952 State phone book The Owl Club is listed at 50 S Maine St, and still has the phone number 42-W!

In 1955 & 1956 State phone books, The Owl Club is still listed at 50 S Maine, with the phone # of HA3-9352

I forgot to look for the Palace Club and just put the phone books away sorry...

BUT...before digging in the phone books I looked online. I found this reference to the Palace Club as "New" in 1914

And this is probably far-fetched, but Hazen isn't too far from Fallon. This is the Palace Hotel in Hazen, in 1911.
