... pretty frustrating if you're doing it on the fly. I think I figured out the secret of why pics turn to dead links. I suspect it's a timer thing (is that right, David Spragg?) where the embedded link from the upload has a token that expires after a minute or two (or five or ten or ???). I was writing this all on the fly and I noticed, upon finally clicking "preview" several minutes later, that the first images I uploaded were "dead", while the latter ones were present. By going back and removing the IMG link and re-loading the image in the same place, it fixed the problem, but changed the "token" embedded in the link, which tells me the old one likely expired or only a certain number are available in "cache" and new uploads push out old uploads (or something like that). One could overcome this by pre-composing their post outside the chip board (in Word or notepad or even an email to oneself, for instance). Get all pics ready to go and post/upload all at once as quickly as possible.
The next issue is the recurring problem we all seem to have from time to time, which is the sideways and upside down pictures. I've verified on countless occasions that I've taken a picture with proper orientation, whether portrait or landscape mode (sometimes immediately before posting) and the orientation of the camera is accurate (the camera icon isn't "sideways" to the frame). The solution to this is simple but annoying (I use Windows, so my solution reflects that, as opposed to a mac or mobile phone). You have to right click the image, click "Edit in Photos", and simply "Save a Copy". You don't have to make any actual changes. Just re-save it. Somehow, that strips or alters some form of meta data from the image that confuses the site upload tool and the pictures ALWAYS load with the correct orientation. With my Day 3 pics, it was so hit and miss that I just decided to edit/save every dang picture and reloaded them all, even the ones that looked fine originally, just to save time.
Because I ran into this on both of last night's posts, I thought I had proofed all of the links before actually posting, but I guess I didn't. I'll reload those pics in a few minutes.
I have a TON of other pics from my trip, but posted only the ones I thought people would be most interested in. I might push the rest up to a cloud directory and post a link to them in case anyone wants to view or download them without commentary. I'd be happy to answer any questions about them as well.
Anyway, thanks for bringing this to my attention.
